Climate Neighbourhoods

“Let’s scale up solutions!”, the CN theme, addresses interested parties from all over the world. The CN speaks to the central question of ICCA2019: How can vertical and horizontal cooperation intensify climate mitigation and adaptation activities and make them more widespread? The objective of CN is to make local implementers of climate action more aware of these dimensions of cooperation by discussing success stories

ICCA2019 and CN are building on past conferences in Hanover in 2015, where the ICCA and CN were held jointly for the first time. The Hanover conferences sent important messages to policymakers – these were incorporated in the international debate at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.

CN’s interactive programme in the heart of Heidelberg’s historic district provides a platform for exchange between local authorities, civil society and businesses that actively foster climate mitigation and adaptation measures. The prominent location at the university square is intended to engage the public and call attention to the CN cause. Participatory elements will allow the public to actively contribute their perspectives on climate action. Young people especially are invited to participate with creative ideas and innovative suggestions. The Youth Climate Summit in advance of CN will provide them with their own platform.
