James Alexander is Director of the City Finance Programme at the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. James is responsible for C40’s work supporting global megacities to overcome the barriers to financing climate action. Specifically this is focused on providing technical assistance and support, helping cities address their challenges through peer-peer exchanges, sharing best practices, and working to address the systemic financing barriers impacting on cities.
James is the C40 Head of the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF), a project implemented in partnership with GIZ, and funded by the German, British and United States governments. The CFF supports cities to prepare and deliver finance-ready green infrastructure projects, whilst building financial capacity, and sharing lessons learned.
Prior to C40, James served the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, advising the Scottish Government on economic growth in Scotland. In this role, James worked with the leaders of Scotland’s cities to develop the Cities Strategy for Scotland and create a new Scottish Cities Alliance, delivering additional investment, jobs and growth in Scotland’s cities.
